Wheyward Spirit Named 2021 Good Food Award Winner: Farm to Flask Whey-Based Spirit Among GFA Winners

Portland, OR., January 25, 2021- Wheyward Spirit, the first of its kind of distilled specialty spirit bringing sustainably sourced, upcycled whey from domestic diaries into the alcohol industry, announced that it is a 2021 Good Food Award winner in the spirits category.

Wheyward Spirit is a clear, distilled specialty spirit (80 proof), developed to be sipped straight or used in place of standard base spirit for a bespoke twist to classic cocktails, that is versatile and sippable. Founder and CEO Emily Darchuk spent over a year in development as she wanted to maintain the natural characteristics of whey throughout the distillation process. The flavor profile is delicate yet complex and has oaky hints of vanilla cream and warm spice notes, rounded with a subtle pear aroma, followed by a velvety smooth finish. The spirit has no additives or flavorings and is gluten, grain, and lactose-free.

The Good Food Awards acknowledge makers in the food system who are driving tasty, authentic, and responsible food in order to transform American food culture. Judges include hundreds of industry leaders, technical experts, grocers, chefs, food writers and general ‘food movement leaders’ for a well-rounded panel to tap into the values of everyday consumers and industry professionals.
